Art vs Porn

I've recently been inspired by the likes of Erika Lust, Nina Hartley, Feck:Art, I Shot Myself, Beautiful Agony, and the feminist porn movement. There is a void of healthy, consensual and liberating expressions of erotic energy which I intend to bring to life through my art. I feel that my message is to highlight and share to the world my view of sexuality, when it comes to self love, acceptance of one's sexual energy, and the ability to respectfully and with consent share one's sexual energy with others.

I feel that there is divide between the female gaze and that of the male when it comes to the majority of porn and erotic imagery. There is a void waiting to be filled with real intimacy and sex between people who have authentic sexual chemistry. This tight-rope is a hard line to walk, but I feel that if sex and self pleasure is approached in an environment of love, care and respect, then art can be created which does actually engage us erotically, far more so than the majority of 'porn' with fake people having fake sex on the internet.

This kind of project must be conducted with an artistic eye, through which the aesthetics of composition, colour, motion, form, texture and expression are the focus, rather than the view of the male libido. By engaging subjects in this way too, they do not feel objectified, and instead can be reconceptualised as art. Art that turns us on.
